Keeping UCF safe is the UCF Police Department’s top priority.
We hope you never encounter an active threat situation, but we want to prepare you for the worst-case scenario. Knowledge truly is empowering, and our goal is for our community to be better able to think and act quickly in an emergency.
While each scenario requires a different response, the three options you have when faced with a threat remain consistent – Avoid, Deny, Defend.
- AVOID. Get as much distance and barriers between you and the threat as quickly as possible. Have an exit plan and pay attention to your surroundings as you leave.
- DENY. When avoiding is difficult or impossible, deny the threat access to you and your space. Create barriers, turn the lights off and remain quiet and out of sight. Make sure your cell phone is silenced.
- DEFEND. When you are unable to put distance between yourself and the threat, be prepared to protect yourself. Commit to your actions, be aggressive, and do not fight fairly. Do whatever it takes to survive.
UCF Police officers have the training, expertise, and equipment to end the threat quickly and begin life-saving care until medical personnel arrive.
Officers patrol campus 24/7 and dispatchers are always available to take your call on our non-emergency line at 407-823-5555 or by dialing 911 in an emergency. Whether on-campus or off, it is important to stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Remember, if you see something, say something, so UCFPD can do something.
At UCF Public Safety, we’re committed to keeping our campus safe and secure so our Knights can continue to make an impact. Keep reaching for the stars, Knights and Charge On!
